senior citizen housing

When our father became sick we, had to immediately search for senior citizen housing for him.  We were not familiar with the various types of senior citizen housing available, and we were given a very quick education on various forms of treatments and homes available for my father.  There are a lot of choices, and if your family member is very ill, it can be a very emotional and difficult time for other family members to make these decisions.

If you have an elderly parent or loved one that has recently been admitted to the hospital, there are skilled nursing facilities and rehabilitation facilities for traumas such as stroke and spinal cord injuries.  Most of those over 65 will have basic Medicare policy which will cover a certain amount of hospital care days, and then if the patient is not quite ready to return home, doctors will sometimes release them into an acute rehab center or “sniff” (skilled nursing facility).  You will have to check with your insurance carrier to find out what is covered by the patient’s policy.

Once the elderly patient is ready to be released from the hospital, the senior citizen housing available are skilled nursing, assisted living, or live-in caregivers.  If the patient is well enough to care for themselves, they can also move back to their regular routine at home or live in an independent living senior apartment.  There are many choices and it is really a personal and family decision on what is right for you.
